About Medi-Test?
Medi-Test urine strips have been “tried and tested” in markets all over the world. Urine test strips in general are the “first-step” in the armoury within the healthcare professional’s grasp, and the BHR Medi-Test range covers all parameters.
Medi-Test urinalysis strips are very resistant to interference from ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Some strips on the market are prone to vitamin C interference and give falsely-lower or false-negative results. The tests that are most affected are blood, glucose, bilirubin and nitrite.
The Medi-Test Glucose test is the most sensitive test on the market allowing better control of glucose levels in diabetics. The Medi-Test Glucose test is sensitive down to 1.1mmol/l which is 5x more sensitive than a competitor.
The tests can be read between 30 and 60 seconds (except leukocyte which has to be read at 120 sec like every other brand on the market). This makes it very convenient for the nurse to read the results all at once.
Medi-Test strips have a very long shelf-life even after opening the tubes. Some competitor strips have to be disposed of within 6 moths or so after opening.
The test pads on Medi-Test strips are in the same order and the same distance apart as the colour blocks on the label – allowing easy and error-free reading of the tests.
Aligning the direction of the arrows on the test strips with those on the label ensures that there is no misunderstanding of the positioning of the strip relative to the label and ensures results are read correctly for each test.

Test Procedure

Remove a test strip, taking care not to touch the reaction fields. Immediately close the container again. This protects the remaining test strips from humidity and guarantees strip integrity up to the expiry date indicated

Dip the test strip for about 1 second into the fresh urine sample. Wipe off any excess urine on the rim of the vessel and blot the edge of the test strip on tissue paper

Read the result by comparing the test fields with the colour scale on the test pack after 30 to 60 seconds

Alternatively, place the test strip on the Uryxxon ‘Relax’ Test Strip Reader

Why should I test for glucose with Medi-Test Glucose?
For persons with diabetes, the presence of glucose in the urine can be an indication that your diabetes may be out of control. The Medi-Test Glucose test will alert you and your Doctor to changes in your condition for which adjustments in your diet and/or medication may be needed. The Medi-Test Glucose test is the most sensitive test on the market allowing better control of glucose levels in diabetics. The Medi-Test Glucose test is sensitive down to 1.1mmol/l which is 5x more sensitive than a competitor.
When Should I Test For Ketones?
• When directed by your Doctor or Nurse.
• When you have a cold, the flu or any other kind of illness.
• When your urine glucose test results show you are spilling large amounts of glucose (2% or more for two or more tests in a row or several days in a row.)
• When your blood glucose meter reads over 13.3 mmol/L, or when your blood glucose is well over the range your doctor or Health Care Professional has set for you.
• When you are under stress.
• Regularly during pregnancy.
Expected Values:
Normal urine specimens ordinarily yield negative results with the Medi-Test Keton strips. Ensure you follow instructions on how the read the strips Please call the information line for further guidance.
All results are readable between 30-60 seconds except leukocytes, why is this?
Simply due to the nature of the test, the leukocyte parameter requires a little longer to develop. This is the same for most brands of urine diagnostic.
Will high ascorbic acid levels affect the results?
Due to the high resistance towards interferences by ascorbic acid, a second testing for sensitive parameters such as blood or glucose is unnecessary in most cases.
What is the average shelf life of Medi-Test?
Medi-Test strips have a very long shelf-life even after opening the tubes, typically 2 years if the tube is closed after use. Some competitor strips have to be disposed of within 6 months or so after opening. BHR are here to help, and we welcome any feedback on any of our products.
